Dr. Gabor Mate @ Occupy Wall Street (video)

Democracy Now!, Occupy Wall Street
LINK (, Oct. 11, 2011)

On a trip from Vancouver, Dr. Gabor Maté stopped by Occupy Wall Street. He talked to "Democracy Now!" host Amy Goodman and observed:

"50 percent of American adults have a chronic medical illness. And much of that has to do with stress. And if you look at the literature of what causes stress, it's uncertainty and lack of information and loss of control, and lack of expression of self.

"And the uncertainty that has been forced upon the American population by the recent economic crisis -- the loss of control as power has flown into the hands of very, very few people, and the absolute powerlessness of the many in the face of all that, and the lack of expression through the ordinary political process -- people are totally disempowered and deprived of their voice.

"This protest addresses all those issues. So I can only say that this is an extraordinarily healthy thing to happen. People who participate here will be healthier as a result. And maybe society in general as well."

The Protest in Pictures (video)

Amber Dorrian, Seven, Ryan (Wisdom Quarterly), , TheAtlantic.com/In Focus
The CONSERVATIVE "Carnival of Crazy" on TV and Tea Party phoniness on the ground are called normal. But diverse, grassroots organizations occupying the US are a plot.

Wall Street occupiers agree the rich (1%) are getting richer on the backs of average citizen (99%) who are being impoverished feed Wall Street (stock exchange) greed.

Did protesters benefit indirectly from the largesse of one of the world's richest men? There has been speculation over who is financing the disparate protests (the "American Fall"?) now spreading across the country and the world in just four weeks.

Jesus Christ (Saint Issa) demonstrator takes part in the Occupy London Stock Exchange demonstration in England, on Oct. 15, 2011 (AP/Elizabeth Dalziel).

One name that has come up is investor "leftist" strawman [phony target] George Soros, 81, who in September debuted on the Top 10 list of wealthiest Americans. Conservative critics contend the movement is a Trojan horse for a sinister Soros agenda.

This "99% is too big to fail!" Occupy LA protesters march in the Protest Against Corporate Greed on the Int'l Day of Action, Oct. 15, 2011 (Reuters/David McNew).

Soros and protesters deny any connection. But Reuters found indirect financial links between Soros and Adbusters, an anti-capitalist group in Canada that started the protests with an inventive marketing campaign aimed at sparking an Arab Spring-type uprising against Wall Street.

[That is some indirect link. By that standard, Republicans are guilty of "Nazi" involvement because George Bush's grandfather Prescott Bush and other Republicans' relatives were there during the atrocities.]

And Soros and the protesters share some ideological ground. [They both love FOX TV but loathe FOX News.] "I can understand their sentiment," Soros told reporters last week at the United Nations about the peaceful Occupy Wall Street demonstrations. They are expected to spur solidarity marches globally.

People sign banner at "Occupy DC" anti-corporate Stop the Machine co-protest, Freedom Plaza, Oct. 10, 2011, reclaiming American politics for the people (Jewel Samad/AFP/Getty Images).

Pressed further for his views on the movement and the protesters, Soros refused to be drawn in. But rabid conservative radio host [and super-duper journalist] Rush Limbaugh summed up the speculation when he told his listeners last week, "George Soros money is behind this."

Soros is No. 7 on the Forbes 400 list with a fortune of $22 billion, which has ballooned in recent years as he deftly responded to financial market turmoil. He has pledged to give away all his wealth -- half of it while he earns it and the rest when he dies.

Don't think of it as a Police State; think of it as a "Secure Homeland" or "Tax dollar Torture."

Like the protesters, Soros is no fan of the 2008 bank bailouts and subsequent government purchase of the toxic sub-prime mortgage assets they amassed in the property bubble as people were foreclosed.

George W. Bush and B.S. Obama's cousin Dick Cheney rest on their laurels.

The protesters say the Wall Street bank bailouts in 2008 left bankers enjoying huge profits while laborers Americans suffered under high unemployment and job insecurity with little help from Washington.

Mainstream News: "Police are troublemakers"

Wisdom Quarterly
()

MSNBC is a corporate outlet. It purports to represent the "liberal" side as a ridiculous counterpart to Fox News' "conservative" extremes. It is part and parcel of the mainstream media.

This piece is important only because it is mainstream coverage of the protests. It is surprising that the powers that be allow MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnel to go this far in getting at the truth.

This may seem an insignificant report compared to all the video out there and all the injustice (most police crimes are not videotaped). But this is where reform starts.

The protests are filled with individuals who will no longer condone how corrupt our government, banks, military-industrial complex, and other corporate bodies have become. The Fed (The Federal Reserve Bank, Inc.), which is a private bank serving its own interests not the government's, is the lynchpin.

It is not the only corrupt body on Wall Street. The other private banks use it to rob the country blind with political help and blessings.

Many protesters have additional messages to be heard. There are many injustices, many causes, many routes to freedom. Most American only know that they are unhappy and in danger. Most of us want to create a better world, better society, better states.

In the beginning there was a mainstream media blackout on the Occupy Movement. Long before that the corruption of the Fed was avoided. The bailouts, the political maneuvering by Obama, Bush II, Clinton, Bush I is what we want to bring to light.

The Fed has handed out over $16 trillion ($2 trillion more than the national debt that took over two centuries to rack up) to private banks and corporations in the past four years. As suffering people not given a voice have increasingly "acted out," the military-industrial complex has funded a police state. We are spied on, and the constitutional protects and civil rights have been disregarded, rewritten, or simply violated.

  • A "trillion" is a thousand billion, a billion is thousand million.
  • A million seconds is about 12 days, but...
  • A trillion seconds is 32 thousand years.

But none of this was addressed by the mainstream media because that media is owned by the very corporations it fails to report on. The people did not elect the news staffs or editors, the oil ("energy") corporations or executives, the PR firms, nor were they approved of by the people.

These are red flags! Even "reputable" links prove what is being said. No special interpretation is necessary. Let us all make sure the current protests make these secrets known.

Bank (economic) crimes lead to unthinkable war (military) crimes. Because of poverty, brought on by corporate greed, members of society turn on themselves then turn on others in the greater world. We, the USA, are the empire to fear. Before long another empire will ascend. Just as we make others suffer, so we will suffer. Of course, only some of us are doing it. Therefore, it is the job of the rest of us to stop it. People (whistle blowers) defect from being part of the problem to contributing to the solution. Meanwhile, others (the media) deny there is any problem at all.

Occupy Berkeley in the Sixties (video)

Wisdom Quarterly, Occupy Boston, Occupy Los Angeles, AlJazeera.net, Occupy Wall Street
Joined by labor unions, protesters march from Foley Square to Zuccotti Park, NY (Reuters/AlJazeera).

UC Berkeley was occupied giving rise to a generation of activists (Criticalthinking007)

"You will respect my authoritay!" is the police mantra chanted around the country. Teachers, unions, professionals can all join students, activists, and elderly demonstrators. The mantra is the same. As now, so in the 1960s. Then it was illegal wars, racism, and a lack of civil rights for all. Today the issues are far more pressing -- a matter of survival. Having enough to eat as bankers give a new spin to the ancient "Let them eat cake" utterance that preceded the French Revolution commemorated by Bastille Day. Wall Street onlookers from on high giggle "Let them sip champagne." "People over Profits" as transport unions join Occupy Wall Street demonstration.

Power to the People
AlJazeera.net
A diverse group of powerful unions has joined demonstrations in New York's financial district, lending some focus, credibility and potentially hundreds of participants to a movement that began with a few university students.

The "Occupy Wall Street" protest movement, which began three weeks ago in New York's financial hub, was joined on Wednesday by a dozen US labor unions.

Among those who joined the clamor were members of the Chinatown Tenants Union and the Transit Workers Union, the liberal group MoveOn.org, [CodePink,] and community organizations such as the Working Families Party and United NY. More

Occupy Los Angeles (Oct. 1, 2011)

Wisdom Quarterly, Kloncke.com, OccupyLA.org
Let's our country back from bankers and police state officials by occupying it from coast to coast, from Wall Street and downtown Los Angeles. We are the 99% being destroyed by 1%.

[Kloncke] began gathering some friends into a group we call Bay Area Radical Sangha (BARS). BARS is a space for meditators with "radical" politics. How is that defined? Structural critiques of our racist, hetero-patriarchal, war-reliant, capitalist system.
Instead, we support one another in contemplative practice and development. Having met and talked with many of you, I know for a fact that everyone has something wonderful to contribute.

If you are established in some sort of contemplative practice (it does not have to be Buddhist, although this is the foundation of the group) and would like to join in building a committed, holistic center of radical struggle, you are warmly welcomed and appreciated. The first BARS meets in the San Francisco Bay Area. New groups are forming in New York at Occupy Wall Street and Los Angeles at this weekend's launch.

All are welcome to stand up in a peaceful demonstration (occupyla.org)

Agitation and Ahimsa (video)

Sanjiv Kakar (Times of India), OccupyWallStreet.org, Wisdom Quarterly, Feminist.com
Ahimsa means harmony, non-violence, non-harming. Police are not familiar with it.

Today we see tens of thousands of citizens, including many youths, taking to the streets for a better tomorrow. In a country with a sizable youth population, having youngsters at the forefront of political agitation is not surprising.

Let movements remain nonviolent. For violence always ends in failure. It is truth that wins out in the end because, like the sun hidden by clouds, it will shine before long.

The spectacle of families bringing their children to Anna Hazare's fast at the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi for a dose of morality and [divine] ethics raises fundamental questions. What is it that we can do to establish ahimsa in our youth? Since protest is here to stay as a vital tool in the political arena, education in non-violence becomes a priority. More

Money and the Kindness of Strangers

Wisdom Quarterly

It was raining money at San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium! Club-level server Heather Allison was taking orders in the stands at a Chargers football game when she tripped and showered unsuspecting fans a level below with about $1,000 in cash. You can guess what happened.

  • A man threw his baby over the railing telling him to grab as much cash as he could before hitting the bleachers?
  • Fans began to fight each other resulting in two deaths in a mad scramble during the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression?
  • Gunshots were fired by security personnel in an attempt to clear the crowd who looked up to see money raining down before the shots did injuring many in the confusion and stampede?
  • No, it was even more amazing. The fans surprised everyone.

“All my customers began screaming over the railing to the people below: ‘That’s the servers’ money,’” explains Allison, who has sold refreshments in Sections 36 and 37 for five years.

Fans helped collect the stray bills as did the crowd below. Within minutes, a security officer returned with a stack of cash for the grateful waitress. “It was all there,” says the mother of four and full-time student who, after paying the concession, still pocketed $170 in tips. “Chargers fans are amazing,” she says. “We’re like a family.”

Jealous woman sets boyfriend on fire
This is the horrific moment a couple became human fireballs as they were engulfed in flames in a New York street. The first victim, 32, is pictured with his clothes burning as he desperately tried to put out the fire. He died four days later in hospital from 50 percent burns. On the floor, his 50-year-old lover, mass murderer Agnes Bermudez lies screaming in pain as flames roar along her body, as she was accidentally ignited in the attack. The terrifying images were captured on CCTV. But the blaze caught hold of their apartment block in Queens and three people died in the fire. Horribly disfigured in the attack, Burmudez was charged with four counts of murder -- because that's how things are done in America. More

Only Debt and Payment Bondage are certain

Wisdom Quarterly

There is no petition. There is no need to call our Congress person. The fix is in. In a cynical ploy, B.S. Obama got what he wanted, what he was told to do, adopting a position to the right of Republicans.

It's cynical because most of us still believe our president is a liberal, someone interested in the welfare of the majority of Americans.

China owns most of our national debt, which ensures a .war of biblical proportions between the U.S. and the Red Army. (Revelation, which outlines the behavior of Judeo-Christian movers and shakers like a game plan, "a strategy worked out in advance," needs a standing army of a million soldiers, and only China qualifies).
  • Will it be financial "Armageddon," a war over water, or a war with the only force that could challenge the world's most violent imperial power, the US?
He is on office (and was selected to be in office by more business contributions than any other candidate in history) to protect the powers that be -- the rich, politically influential military-industrial complex.

That body is not a single unit but arms of a self-serving group of unelected decision makers and multinational oil executives and others. (Car companies are vested in oil and make profits not from their car sales but from the fuel that powers them, like phone companies that make money from calling plans not phone devices themselves).

Which others? The powers behind mainstream media outlets that spin and repeat stories about what is going on and what it means. Economy tanking? No, it's just that peak oil is valuable, and we need to pay a hidden tax by paying not only more for gas but an added fuel cost to everything, which also means losing our jobs and the social support programs that prevent breadlines and Wall Street suicides infamous during the Great Depression.

Cheney-Bush passed the Patriot Act to curtail our civil rights, and B.S. Obama pitched our enslavement to banking interests.

Does the Mayan Calendar explain it? (video)

Sean David Morton "Prophecy 2012: Road to Tomorrow and Beyond"

In this amazing talk framed in terms of Mayan calendar prophecy, a talk also given at the October 2010 Conscious Life Expo, Sean David Morton makes sense of what is really going on.

Some ideas may sound so outlandish as to put mainstream listeners off until these ideas are combined with irrefutable facts: Much of what Morton was saying in 2009 that was unbelievable then has already come true!

The rest of what he is saying, therefore, becomes more believable. He is not giving breaking news on specifics (that was already done by others, and each key term such as "FEMA camp" or "Promise 2 software" can be fruitfully explored with any browser).

He is tying together an incredible array of specifics from a spiritual perspective, as contrasted with the scientific perspective provided by his co-presenter in another talk.

Obama releases birth certificate

Wisdom Quarterly (ANALYSIS)

It's not clear how this "settles" anything. It might have been better to convincingly answer why it was so hard to produce this evidence until now, or to explain why millions of dollars were spent on behalf of Obama to cover his history and paper trail. Try to interview anyone or to follow his meteoric rise from a poor school in Hawaii to Harvard. The best explanation was provided by Dave Emory, suggesting that Obama was groomed for many years by clandestine services and installed.

How does providing a government document from a corrupt government prove anything? After all, how hard is it for the CIA to produce the necessary documents to prove anything they want? Spy organizations do it all the time. The fix is in, and it has been for years.

They already pulled strings to make him a Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Never mind that he abandoned his campaign promises to pull out of Afghanistan and close the US torture facility/prison at Guantanamo. Far from becoming more peaceful since being crowned a Nobel Peace laureate, he has orchestrated more war and causes of war:

  • launching drones to attack Pakistan
  • fomenting dissent in the geopolitical Middle East, particularly Iran, abusing the executive office just like Bush to depose Libyan leader Qaddafi while saying the goal was not remove him from office then saying that was the goal, and claiming there would be no "boots on the ground" when in fact he had already signed an order to put CIA agents' boots on Libyan ground
  • pouring billions into war on Iraq
  • pouring even more money into war on Afghanistan
  • growing the deficit (our national debt)
  • spying on Americans
  • continuing funding on all the secret or "black" budget operations engaged in by the Pentagon and the military-industrial complex
  • sinking the US dollar
  • promoting nuclear power even after Japan.

Obama has backed more corporate exploits and has successfully done more to further Bush administration policies than a President Dick Cheney ever could have.

Pres. Obama may not, legally speaking, be president of the United States as we know it. But, according to investigator and analyst Sean David Morton, he is president of the Corporation of the United States (US, Inc.). According to investigator and analyst Sean David Morton, that is why he "fumbled" the public oath of office and then did a re-do in closed chambers. There was no chance the Donald Trump was going to depose the possible future leader of the unfree world, a world-president.

What this public display between Birthers and Apologists reveals is amazing: It is not Republicans vs. the USA, nor is it Democrats vs. the USA. Both parties are partly in collusion and partly in the dark.

There is a "shadowy government" (Sen. Inouye) and a "military-industrial complex" (Pres. Einsenhower) that makes the decisions regardless of whether a Democrat or a Republican is in office.

They select who holds office, then they tell them what to say not by force but through advisers and pulling the strings of the media, industry, banking, and clandestine services (American spying agencies).

The hope that by voting for "change" we'll get actual change is revealed as a fantasy.

We're lucky to have a handsome, thoughtful, well-spoken fraud in Barack "Barry Soetoro" Obama.

What will we be offered as an "alternative" in 2012, a Sarah Palin/Donald Trump ticket? The bottom line is, We don't need a third party. We need a second one.

  • The Mayan calendar is used as a template to explain what will happen in the US -- banking crisis, debt, war, "natural" disasters, second coming, Barack Obama (born in Africa, made president of the US, Inc. ), FEMA camps, astrological chart, Quetzecoatl, and so much more.

The People's Budget (cartoon)

Tax the rich? There would be no national debt if corporations paid their share of taxes and the US stopped its imperial wars ("This Modern World" by Tom Tomorrow).

Where is our tax money going? A third war overseas, and our congressmen have decided to increase the already-inflated defense budget. All told, over $1 Trillion will be spent on the U.S. military over the next year, while funds are cut from social services and education. With less federal support, state budgets are in the red. Local governments blame the unions and -- as in Wisconsin -- are peddling legislation to weaken our rights. Thousands of teachers will be laid off.

As we point out in our new documentary, Crossing the American Crises: From Collapse to Action, the nation’s priorities are skewed.

Inequality continues to rise. Homes are boarded up while homeless sleep on the streets. The sick are still turned away because of a lack of health care. The banks are bailed out, while the people are left to suffer. Hardworking Americans pay the bulk in taxes, while multimillionaires hide their assets abroad. Corporations are subsidized or encouraged to move their production overseas. We are gutting the American dream -- if there ever was one.

But there are answers. As The Nation pointed out last week, the Congressional Progressive Caucus has drafted a "People's Budget," which members, Representative Michael M. Honda (D-CA) and Representative Raul M. Grijalva (D-AZ) say, “eliminates the deficit, stabilizes the debt, puts Americans back to work, and restores our economic competitiveness.” More

What is over-taxing the people in Buddhism?

Wisdom Quarterly
It may seem unfair to pick on mild mannered Obama's views on war and taxes. But by continuing Bush/Cheney-era policies while dressed as a democrat, he has betrayed the people who voted for him and even angered those who did not. The only ones who are happy are the clandestine services and business interests that got him (s)elected.

Taxes are an old money-raising scheme. Buddhism makes reference to them in numerous places. Why should this be so? The breadth of topics the Buddha covered is astounding leading Bhikkhu Bodhi to comment on the astonishing modernity of the information.

The Buddha knew as much as the number of leaves in a forest while only revealing in detail a handful. This was his own simile, explaining that his focus was enlightenment and extending the duration of the Dharma (the teaching of the path-practice that leads to enlightenment) in the world.

It is because of the latter that we have pearls of wisdom regarding many topics embedded in the discourses or sutras. Lay followers are guided to a good life, one not aiming at nirvana but at worldly success here and fortunate future rebirths hereafter, in the "Advice to Householders" (DN 31). It includes advice on Buddhist money management.

Ananda's Former Lives

Wisdom Quarterly explanation from Hellmuth Hecker, Ananda: The Guardian of the Dhamma (BPS)
A summary of Ananda's former lives shows that he was only seldom a deva, seldom an animal, but most often a human. One can see that his most important aspect was as a human, whereas his exemplary and infamous brothers, Anuruddha and Devadatta, had almost always been a deva and very often an animal, respectively.

Ananda's extraordinarily close connection to the Buddha is revealed by the fact that he was often his brother in former lives. The examples of former lives given here will be mainly those which exemplify that he, too, had to exert himself to attain virtue.

Hypocrisy is to be expected when the US figurehead is follow orders from unseen movers and shakers (the military-industrial complex with help from big pharmaceuticals and the entertainment arm of public relations. It's not the "change" we voted for, but it is the Brave New World Order we expected.

Birth Story (Jataka) 498. Ananda and the Bodhisatta (the Buddha-to-be) were born as cousins among the outcasts called candalas. Their job was the fumigation of malodorous places [or possibly sweepers]. In order to escape the contempt they were held in, they disguised themselves as young brahmin caste men who together went to the University at Takkasila (Taxila) to study and escape their low caste.

After the Bodhisatta became a great success and Ananda lagged behind in his studies, their deception was discovered. They were beaten by their fellow students and chased out of college. But a wise and kindly brahmin ordered the brahmin students to stop and advised the outcasts to become ascetics, the only upwardly mobile avenue open to them in ancient Indo-Afghanistan/Pakistan (a region in the western frontier of ancient India called Gandhara).

They followed this advice, and in due course passed away. They were reborn together as animals [some say as a karmic result or "punishment" for their deception, but this is highly speculative since karma works in mysterious ways], namely as offspring of a doe. They were inseparable and died together with by the single arrow of a hunter. In the next life [which the Bodhisatta remembered and the Buddha recounted in this birth tale] they were sea hawks and again died together at the hands of a hunter.

With this, their existences below the fortunate human level came to an end. Ananda was born as the son of a king and the Bodhisatta as the son of the priest at court. While Ananda held the higher position in a worldly sense, the Bodhisatta had more inner abilities. For one thing, he could remember all three of their former lives, whereas Ananda could only remember his former human life as an outcast in college. At the age of 16, the Bodhisatta became a sincerely striving ascetic, while Ananda assumed the throne.

Many years later when the time was right and the king amenable to advice, the Bodhisatta visited him. He praised the happiness born of asceticism and explained the unsatisfactoriness of the world of the senses. Ananda admitted that he realized this, but confessed that he could not let go of his desires. He was held fast like an elephant in a muddy watering hole.

Then the Bodhisatta advised him that even as a king he could practice virtue -- such as not levying unjust taxes, and supporting wandering ascetics and brahmin priests. He also taught him that when hot passions arose in him, he could remember his mother. He could recall how he had been completely helpless as a baby, and if his mother had not brought him up, he would never have become king. Thereupon Ananda resolved to become an ascetic; both attained to the brahma (divine) realm.

Mahamuni ("Great Sage") statue created by extraterrestrial devas.

What are Unjust Taxes?

But what are unjust levels of taxation for a ruler? One answer comes from Burmese Theravadan work. This translation was compiled by Roger Bischoff in Buddhism in Myanmar: A Short History:

The Visit to Arakan

In Dhannavati, whose walls are still partially visible today, the Mahamuni temple is located on the Sirigutta hill. In this temple, for over two millennia, the Mahamuni image was enshrined and worshipped. The story of the Mahamuni image, at one time one of the most revered shrines of Buddhism, is told in the Sappadanapakarana, a work of a local historian.

King Candrasuriya, who ruled Dhannavati, on hearing that a Buddha had arisen in India, desired to go there to learn the Dharma. The Buddha, aware of his intention, said to Ananda: "The king will have to pass through forests dangerous to travelers; wide rivers will impede his journey; he must cross a sea full of monsters. It will be an act of charity if we go to his dominion [modern Burma], so that he may pay [his respects] without risking his life."

So the Buddha went there and was received with great pomp by King Candrasuriya and his people. The Buddha then taught the Five and Eight Precepts and instructed the king in the ten kingly duties, namely:

  1. universal beneficence
  2. daily paying respect
  3. showing mercy
  4. taxes of not more than a tenth part of the produce
  5. justice
  6. punishment without anger
  7. the support of his subjects as the Earth supports them
  8. the employment of prudent commanders
  9. the taking of good counsel
  10. avoiding pride.

The Mahamuni Pagoda in Mandalay, Burma housing the magnificent figure.

The Buddha remained for a week. And on preparing for his departure, the king requested that he leave an image of himself so they could pay honor to him even in his absence. The Buddha consented to this and Sakka, King of the [near-Earth extraterrestrial] Devas, himself formed the image with the metals collected by the king and his people.

It was completed in one week. And when the Buddha breathed onto it, the people exclaimed that now there were indeed two Buddhas, so alike was the image to the great sage. Then the Buddha made a prophecy addressing the image: "I shall pass into nirvana in my 80th year, but you will live for 5,000 years, which I have foreseen as the duration of my Teaching (Dharma)."

[This puts us a little past the halfway mark because the Buddha passed into nirvana sometime between 2,600 to 3,000 years ago. This year, 2011, marks the 2,600th year since his enlightenment.]

Bush understood the revenue generating potential of war. It provides an excuse for endless taxation and fewer services that people fear to argue with. Peace is rebellious because we have been convinced by a PR campaign that war is "patriotic." Pres. Obama now apes and adopts all the same postures and platforms as Bush infuriated everyone by doing.
