Occupy UCLA: Take down those tents!

The Occupy Movement promised a Day of Action across nation
Take Back UCLA

(LA Times) Bringing the Occupy Wall Street movement and student protests to Westwood, about 25 tents were set up today on the UCLA campus. But officials said the encampment violated school rules and would not last long.

The tents were pitched on Wilson Plaza near the base of the landmark Janss Steps. And about 100 or so demonstrators were reportedly gathered in the area. Authorities were studying ways to make sure the camp did not stay up...

“The university does intend to enforce those policies,” UCLA spokesman Phil Hampton said.

“At this point, the conversations taking place are about how best to do that.” UCLA wants to balance the protesters’ right to free speech with [the rights of police to beat them]... More

Mario Savio Speech: Prof. Reich (video)

()

This is the full speech given by author, former US Labor Secretary, and current UC Berkeley Professor Robert Reich on the "Mario Savio Steps" of Sproul Plaza on Nov. 15, 2011. Filmed by Jeffrey New, Myles Moscato; edited by Myles Moscato. At the same rally, students used the people's mic to repeat Savio's words verbatim. It was a glorious moment.

A Buddhist Revolution in Orwell's world (video)

() PART I. Orwell wrote 1984 about British and Burmese fascism in 1948.

"Burma VJ" (video journal) is a moving and shocking account of a recent Buddhist revolution against a totalitarian government. The popular protests that broke out across Rangoon in 2007 were brutally suppressed by police state tactics. Yet, they continue.

PART VI

This movie relies entirely on documentary footage shot by undercover reporters risking their lives to get the movement on film. It has been pieced together to form a picture of the events that took place over months.

It covers the initial protests led by Buddhist monks and nuns. Demonstrations broke out in response to a rise in fuel prices. This was a trigger on top of many government abuses and oppression. The movie also captures the brutal crack down by authorities.

A History of Revolution
Similar uprisings have taken place in other Buddhist countries: Tibet, with Chinese communist repression, Cambodia, with a violent reaction by the fascist Khmer Rogue regime, Nepal, a revolution spurred by Maoists and taken down by nervous pro-China government forces, Thailand, as Red and Yellow shirts or pro- and anti-government parties shut down the country, Laos, Vietnam, and Afghanistan (formerly Buddhist Kapilavastu), where American forces were instrumental in destroying rebellions.

The Power of an Idea whose Time has Come
Wisdom Quarterly
Nov. 16, 2011 Occupy Wall Street's first camp is demolished and swept into the dustbin. But you can not arrest an idea, or a movement, or the truth. The worldwide movement lives on. And Wall Street is still the focus of attention. The movement was never about a single location because the camp was never allowed on Wall Street to begin with. Parks and city centers all over the US are simply manifestation of the power of an idea whose time has come. The police state, predictably, cleared corporate Zuccotti Park in lower Manhattan in a predawn raid.

Protesters have been allowed to return but without their insufficient winter equipment, which was stolen from them. The court intervened with a restraining order on police then quickly backed down due to 1 percenter multi-millionaire Mayor Bloomberg's influence behind the scenes. Demonstrators can now bring only a small bag with them, but no tents or sleeping bags are being allowed.

Occupy Wall Street destroyed by police

MIDNIGHT POLICE RAID

Occupy Los Angeles watched the livestream and spontaneously woke the camp and marched two miles through a deserted downtown banging drums in solidarity, causing an LAPD tactical alert until 2:00 am.

(AP) Occupy Wall Street protesters have been ordered to leave [and struck with batons and pepper spray] Zuccotti Park, their longtime encampment in Lower Manhattan. But they've been told they can return once it has been cleaned [and their computers, tents, generators, equipment, food, and everything else has been destroyed, pile into bins and carted away].

(John Taggart/NY Daily News)

At about 1:00 am Tuesday [Nov. 15, 2011], police handed out notices from the park's "owner," Brookfield Office Properties, and the City saying that the park had to be cleared because it had become unsanitary and hazardous.

Protesters were told they could return -- but without sleeping bags, tarps, or tents [or any protection from the elements as winter descends].

Paul Browne, a spokesman for the NYPD, says most people began filing out of the park once they received the notices; one person was arrested for disorderly conduct. Brown says the park was not heavily populated Tuesday morning. More

Occupy Cal has not gone anywhere. Tents were destroyed and teenage students dragged away by "storm trooper" style police in jack boots. In outrage students are holding teach outs and a general student strike. People -- supporters, faculty, graduate student teachers, Occupy Oakland (who are marching to Cal in support), Occupy San Francisco, and UC students -- will not stand by for 1960s history to repeat itself as the country (empire) is again engaged in secret wars around the world and strip mining the planet from its base on Wall Street and anti-environment corporations (Monsanto, ADM, Halliburton

East Timor massacre: US-armed troops kill demonstrators
DemocracyNow.org
This weekend marked the 20th anniversary of the Santa Cruz massacre in East Timor. On Nov. 12, 1991, Indonesian troops fired on a peaceful memorial procession in the Santa Cruz cemetery in Dili, killing more than 270 East Timorese. Two decades later, Amnesty International has called for a judicial inquiry into the massacre, noting that the failure "to hold all the perpetrators to account highlights a wider problem of impunity for crimes under international law and other human rights violations committed during the Indonesian occupation of Timor-Leste (then East Timor) between 1975 and 1999." We play an excerpt from the 1992 documentary "Massacre: The Story of East Timor" produced by journalist Allan Nairn and Amy Goodman on dictator Suharto's Bush and US-backed crimes. More

Oakland re-attacked by Police (video)

Wisdom Quarterly, RT.com, Global Grind,

() Nov. 14, 2011 - The City of Oakland paid for 1,000 paramilitary troops in this planned take down. Now police in occupied Oakland have cleared out a re-formed occupation after threatening Occupy demonstrators with more heavy handed violence.

Oakland PD and agents from other San Francisco Bay Area cities encircled the downtown encampment before dawn and moved in at about 6:00 am. They escorted handcuffed protesters away soon afterward to be imprisoned, strip searched, humiliated, and potentially violated further.
The police state action comes a day after police attacked hundreds of Occupy Wall Street-style demonstrators from encampments in Portland, Oregon arresting more than 50 people. Oakland officials insisted on an end to their city's encampment using the pretext that a man was fatally shot Thursday near the camp.

Occupy Portland pushes back after closures
Los Angeles Times
PORTLAND, Oregon - Several hundred protesters, some wearing goggles and gas masks, marched past authorities downtown Sunday, hours after riot police forced Occupy Portland demonstrators out of two encampments in parks.

(RT.com courtesy of Jamie Francis and Steve Schwind) Portland police in riot gear surround hundreds of Occupy protesters to violently evict them using batons, deadly weapons, and arrests to promote economic inequality and corporate greed.

Police moved in shortly before noon and drove protesters into the street after dozens remained in the camps in defiance of city officials. Mayor Sam Adams had ordered that the camps be shut down Saturday at midnight, citing unhealthy conditions and the increasing number of drug users and thieves. More than 50 protesters were arrested.

After the police raid, the number of demonstrators swelled throughout the afternoon. By early evening, dozens of officers brandishing nightsticks stood shoulder to shoulder to hold the protesters back. Authorities retreated and protesters broke the standoff by marching through the streets.

Demonstrators regrouped several blocks away, where they broke into small groups to discuss their future. Some were advocating occupying foreclosed homes; others wanted to move onto the Portland State University campus or to the shores of the Willamette River. More
Mayor Sam Adams threatens to close down the camp. Portland PD is ready to kill, injure, and arrest but having faced massive resistance, they retreat.

Telling APEC and Obama: "We Are the Many"
() Nov. 12, 2011 on the grounds of the Hale Koa, Honolulu

The "World Leaders Dinner" at APEC, hosted by the First Family, got an earful. The Secret Service had warned that any phone cameras would be confiscated. Grabbing video was not easy under constant surveillance but it's my art and my right.

About an hour into my set of generally ambient guitar music and Hawaiian tunes, I felt inspired to share some songs that resonated with the significance of the occasion.

I sang a few verses from "Kaulana Na Pua" (a Hawaiian protest song), then segued into Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower," Sting's "Fragile," and finally my newest song "We Are the Many."

My goal was to fill their ears and the atmosphere with a message that might effectively be received subconsciously. I sweetly sang lines like,

"You enforce your monopolies with guns
While sacrificing our daughters and sons
But certain things belong to everyone
Your thievery has left the people none"

Reactions were muted. I would get strange, befuddled stares from heads of state. It was a very quiet room, no waiters, only me, sound techs, and leaders of almost half the world's population.

Instead of disrupting with force, I chose to deliver an extremely potent and prolonged message in a polite manner. Dedicated to those speaking truth to power. - Makana

Occupy Portland in standoff with riot police

Police State actions at Occupy Portland (CNN)

For several hours Sunday afternoon, [armed and extremely dangerous] Portland police officers in riot gear were lined up along Main Street, between 3rd and 4th Avenues, in front of a group of Occupy Portland protesters defying repeated orders to leave. A crowd grew for hours in the street near the park that was made up of protesters, reporters, photographers, and onlookers. Some sat down for a time; a tent was brought toward the front line for a time and later removed. KGW reported that Salem police were brought to the scene to assist Portland police, amid protest signs, the V peace symbol and some people wearing gas masks. Chants included the familiar "The whole world is watching," as well as ones like "There's no riot here -- put away your riot gear." More

Occupy Cal: Police brutality in Berkeley (video)

Miles Matthews, RT.com, Occupy Cal, The Daily Californian, Wisdom Quarterly
(Nov. 10, 2011) Our own media won't cover what really happens, but , the British tabloid press, CBC.ca, and Al Jazeera sometimes will.

(Video by Miles Mathews, CalTV) US paramilitary forces in riot gear clashed with dissenting students at Cal Berkeley after demonstrators refused to dismantle their Occupy Cal camp. Tents were erected following a march protesting tuition fee increases for students -- in solidarity with the broader Occupy Wall Street movement. Several activists were arrested, some were beaten with impunity by police with batons, guns, spies, mace, cannons, and secret disorienting weapons.

On a day marked by large crowds and violence between protesters and police, UC Berkeley students and community members established an Occupy Cal encampment on Sproul Plaza, despite it going directly against campus policy.

UC students were arrested and suffered injuries following a police crackdown on an attempted campus. "We had the tents set up for about a half an hour when the police decided they wanted to shut down the camp," student protester Eric Uribe recalled in an interview with RT.

"What the students did is they set up a human wall around the tents. Soon after that, the police approached with full force in riot gear, with batons. We had no intention to move, but they jabbed some of us repeatedly in the stomach, pulling people onto the floor and arresting them." Hundreds of protesters had gathered at the town's Sproul Plaza to protest against tuition fee increases and public education funding cuts.

Police shoot cameraman on video

Ernest A. Canning (BradBlog.com)

New video has emerged, courtesy of ThinkProgress, of an apparently unprovoked Oakland police officer shooting a cameraman during a recent stand-off with Occupy Oakland demonstrators.

In an email to The BRAD BLOG, Sgt. Christopher Bolton, Oakland PD's Chief of Staff, confirmed that the incident involved an "OPD use of force," which took place at 16th Street near San Pablo Ave. in Oakland on the morning of Nov. 3, 2011.

The matter was "under investigation." (Recall that a general strike took place in Oakland on Nov. 2. This event, according to the cameraman, took place shortly after midnight.) More

Police State? Who said Police State?

Coast to Coast, InfoWars.com, Josh Tolley, Wisdom Quarterly
Even the "right" opposes a police state. It blames the "left" (Red vs Blue), loves capitalism, supports police and war, tends to be racist and Christian. But nobody wants to live under a totalitarian regime like we do thanks to the shadow government pushing for the NWO.

Preserving freedom -- right wing style. Alternative media activist Alex Jones appeared on Coast to Coast (11-9-11). Like Jesse Ventura he is consumed with exposing the forces really controlling world events and preserving personal freedoms.

Having grown up in Texas, he witnessed corruption (by police) at an early age. He became an avid history student. And while still in high school, he started recognizing anti-gun, anti-family, globalist indoctrination. His college in Austin was pro-World Government... "a eugenics, transhumanist... total scientific dictatorship domination program."

Alex Jones was saying the same things a year ago.

After observing tragic police state oppression in Waco and Oklahoma City, he took to the airwaves on Public Access TV, radio, then the Web. He believes Timothy McVeigh was a patsy similar to Oswald.

"I never intended to try to be in the media; I wanted to work outside," said Jones. But as he learned of "total political takeover" and "New World Order brainwashing," he felt he had to warn people.

Legal to carry, but me frisking you is legal if I say it is.

He claims that what drives him is his quest for liberty, freedom, and fair play. "My goal is for us to learn from history and have a freer, libertarian, constitutional society," he explains. We are at a huge crossroads right now, and rather than the "greedy and hateful Illuminati" controlling human destiny, "I want to empower the better aspects of humanity and really see how far we can go."

Guns, capitalism, and free trade for freedom?

Regarding the TSA's invasive pat downs and [cancer and blindness causing] X-ray machines, he believes they are part of a plan "to break our will, and to train us that we have absolutely zero rights, zero liberties, and that the government any time it wants can pull you over, or come into your house without a warrant."

Jones announced that in addition to his radio show, he is now hosting Info Wars Nightly News, a live video news program covering the day's headlines, with unscripted analysis.

Police attempt to murder Iraq War Vet (video)

Wisdom Quarterly
Using threats and force to press for a triumph of will over others is a police state tactic once called "fascism" and now called special weapons and tactics (SWAT) operations.

() Eyewitnesses in Oakland have put up footage of the police's violent tactics against activists. Here is one of the latest videos of the incident referred to in Marina Portnaya's report. An Iraq War veteran was injured.

Marine veteran Scott Olsen is seen lying on the ground after being shot in the head by a police officer wielding a tear gas canister propeller, fracturing Olsen's skull and swelling his brain. When a group of activists run to his aid, a policeman deliberately takes aim at the protesters, misusing a "non-lethal" weapon in an illegally deadly fashion with complete immunity. Police then lob a flash bomb at the group to prevent them from aiding Olsen. It goes off immediately, terrorizing the unarmed civilians being subjected to indiscriminate deadly force.
()

"Veterans for Peace" member Scott Olsen was critically wounded by Oakland Police who are believed to have been joined by 15 other government agencies. Together they fired on unarmed American citizens. When the government uses violence to suppress its people it is a form of fascism.

It's a Police State now (video)

() This footage is unbelievable. So please spread it as quickly as possible before it gets removed. Authorities have already spoken to Google and YouTube demanding that all police brutality videos be taken down. So much for free speech.

Pretext: "It's not healthy for these kids to camp like they're homeless." Force: Coordinated paramilitary city police. Victim ("enemy"): Peaceful demonstrators occupying public square to call attention to broken economic, political, and educational system. The world is not working under American capitalism, which is owned, controlled, and in service of corporations not the people they purport to serve. Solution: More occupiers.

The police did not feel safe. So they suited up and mowed down the unarmed opposition. It's just like NFL football... except with guns, concussive grenades, tear gas, blunt force trauma inducing batons, torture technique training, and virtual immunity from prosecution for brutality and assault.
