Forgiving Hitlers, Building New World (video)

, Wisdom Quarterly
Classic speech accompanied by new images courtesy of the Lakey sisters

One of the most inspirational speeches in recorded history was given, paradoxically, by a silent movie comedian named Charlie Chaplin. It beckons us to forgive our Hitlers -- Dick Cheney, the Bush Dynasty, B.S. Obama, Rumsfeld, Rove, Goebbels, Bill Gates, Ashcroft, Rice, Hillary, Stalin, Osama, Kaddafi, Thatcher, Saddam, Adolf... A new and better world -- full of fairness, compassion, and solutions -- is not built by opposing the previous bad, but by erecting the present good. Share these inspiring words around the world in many languages. It has been enhanced with new imagery.

News of the Day: Ganesh vs. Hitler (video)

Nirvana poured their hearts into "Nevermind"
With their untucked flannel shirts, messy hair, and laid-back air, the three members of [the band] Nirvana -- Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl, and Krist Novoselic -- projected pure slackerdom when they burst onto the cultural scene in 1991. But that look was deceiving. As an expansive new multi-disc re-release of "Nevermind" reveals, the band worked incessantly for more than a year to craft an album that went on to rock the foundation of the music business in the same way that the Sex Pistols' (similarly titled) "Never Mind the Bollocks" caused a punk explosion in the disco age. "These guys were far from slackers; they were very ambitious," says Butch Vig...

NEPAL: Gender discrimination fuels malnutrition
(IRIN) Malnutrition is chronic in remote areas. Gender discrimination lies behind much of the malnutrition found in under-five children in Nepal, say locals and experts. In Khalanga Bazaar, Jumla District in Nepal's remote mid-west, there is evidence of seasonal plenty -- apples and walnuts in abundance -- yet last month a 3-year-old child died of malnutrition in the neighboring village of Urthu. According to the Nepal Demographic Health Survey (NDHS), 29 percent of children under five are malnourished, and the problem is chronic... (in the NDHS 2006 report) show more than half of the children are chronically malnourished.

Sex or Meditation? Top 10 Promiscuous Cities

Wisdom Quarterly (SEX AND RELATIONSHIPS COMMITTEE)

In just one hour of trying not to think about sex, Binky discovered how kinky he really is ("Life in Hell" by Matt Groening).

It probably does not happen to anyone else. But when we meditate, our minds tend to drift toward sex. Why the mind likes to relive (past) or imagine (future) pleasant sensation, we cannot fathom.

The eye is not trapped by forms... and the body is not trapped by tactile sensations. If it were enlightened beings would not be free, or freedom would be as easy as sitting alone in the dark.

The mind is like a monkey trapped five times over. Imagine a silly monkey (or rabbit) who has wandered far from its familiar realm. It sees honey and grasps it.

The honey is not only sweet, it's gluey. It can't let go. It grabs the honey with the other hand to get its first hand loose. That hand gets caught, too. It uses a foot, then another foot, and finally its mouth -- and is caught five times over, stuck, in a ridiculous quandary.

The mind obsessed with sex is like that. Its senses fall into bondage. But the honey is sweet! Yes, and the glue is gluey. If we do not rise above, we stay trapped right where we are.

Where are we? CBS News reports that there are ten top cities for furtive honey searches. Mindfully meditating never hurt a monkey. All of its distress came from letting its mind wander far from the present moment. Even the Nazis couldn't keep the monkeys safe.
  • VAMPIRE MONKEY: This Chinese sucking species lives solely off other animals’ blood, one of the only primates to do so. It creates complex nests similar to the weaver bird's. It uses handmade tools like humans and is possibly the "missing link" in the evolution of modern humans (Yoon84).

Hitler gave NAZIs sex dolls for protection
A new book reveals that the French resistance and Allied bombers weren’t the only threats that Hitler’s Nazi soldiers faced in Paris during World War II. Turns out syphilis -- spread from dalliances with French prostitutes -- presented a more clandestine danger. To combat Nazi soldiers’ temptations from the Parisian joie de vivre, Hitler gave the okay to manufacture blow up sex dolls [invented by Nazis?] as a more hygienic alternative, reports The Herald Sun. News of the Day: Gaga, Moon, Hitler, Tiger...

Thailand's new PM, Yingluck Shinawatra, the sister of ousted Premier Thaksin Shinawatra, waves to the crowd outside her party's headquarters in Bangkok on July 3, 2011 (Damir Sagolj/Reuters-Landov).

Yingluck Shinawatra, who has been elected the first woman prime minister of Thailand, has been a shadowy figure on the Thai scene up to now. In her TV interviews she comes across as a typical Thai female presence: deft, slightly steely, understated, her gestures measured and imperturbable, the charm calculatingly uncalculating. She will cut an interesting figure on the world stage. At once corporate and feminine, dynastic and individual, she has joined the ranks of Golda Meir, Margaret Thatcher, and Indira Gandhi without the gender-war boilerplate of her American counterparts or the stern asexuality of an [Angela] Merkel. Looking at the Dark Side of the Moon
NASA is working on a topographic map of the Moon showing its mysterious dark side in greater detail than ever before. The data's been collected by the Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter (LOLA), whose five beams create a two-dimensional map that unambiguously reveals slopes. LOLA will also measure the spreading of the return pulse and the change in its energy to establish the surface roughness and reflectance.

Did Apollo 11 Encounter UFOs on the Moon?

Timothy Good (Above Top Secret)
According to hitherto unconfirmed reports, both Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin saw UFOs shortly after that historic landing on the Moon in Apollo 11 on 21 July 1969. I remember hearing one of the astronauts refer to a "light" in or on a crater during the television transmission, followed by a request from mission control for further information. Nothing more was heard. According to a former NASA employee Otto Binder, unnamed radio hams with their own VHF receiving facilities that bypassed NASA's broadcasting outlets picked up the following exchange:

In Israel, diggers unearth the Bible's bad guys
TEL EL-SAFI, Israel (AP) - At the remains of an ancient metropolis in southern Israel, archaeologists are piecing together the history of a people remembered chiefly as the bad guys of the Hebrew Bible -- the Philistines.... Close to three millennia ago, Gath was on the frontier between the Philistines, who occupied the Mediterranean coastal plain, and the Israelites, who controlled the inland hills. The city's most famous resident, according to the Book of Samuel, was Goliath -- the giant warrior improbably felled by the young shepherd David and his sling.

New "South California," the 51st state?

Supervisor Jeff Stone, a Republican pharmacist from Temecula, called California an "ungovernable'' financial catastrophe from which businesses are fleeing and where taxpayers are being crushed [supposedly] by the burden of caring for welfare recipients and illegal immigrants.

Neo-Nazi father murdered by 10 year old son

White supremacist Jeff Hall (with bullhorn) at an anti-illegal immigration rally in Riverside (Brian Levin/Cal State San Bernardino).

Neo-Nazi father murder: Did a violent life lead to a violent death at the hands of his 10-year-old?
(SCPR.org) For the next month, psychiatrists will evaluate a 10-year-old Riverside, California boy accused of murdering his neo-Nazi father.

Authorities say the young boy confessed to the killing during an interview with detectives.

The father was Jeff Hall, the leader of a local white supremacist group. His son had been steeped in his violent, neo-Nazi rhetoric. But there could have been a more basic motive: an attempt to stop beatings in the Hall home.
Authorities say that early on May 1, the boy took a loaded revolver from his parents’ bedroom, crept downstairs where his father was dozing on a sofa, and fired a single shot that killed him.

Court documents say the boy told a detective that he shot his dad to stop him from beating him and his stepmother.

“When we’re talking about a juvenile, especially one that is this young, we take into account the understanding that a 10-year old may not have the same ability to comprehend what his actions have done than an 18-year-old and so forth," said Riverside County prosecutor Ambrosio Rodriguez.

The boy had been thrown out of public school, apparently for his violent tendencies. Those tendencies, and the murder, might be the product of the father’s violent lifestyle. Jeff Hall led the West Coast chapter of the National Socialist Movement, an international neo-Nazi group, and Rodriguez expects the group's hate-filled cause to be part of the case. More
