Obama not assassinated but man charged

(cosmicgnostic.com)

A man (Oscar Ortega, 21) has been arrested and charged with attempting to assassinate Pres. [of the Corporation of the United States] B.S. Obama. He shot at the White House from a half-mile away... while the Obamas were out of the country. Nevertheless, this will serve as a sufficient pretext to bump up security, strengthen the Secret Police (service), and clamp down on already draconian DC (District of Columbia, a private imperial seat of power like the Vatican and a few blocks of London, outside of the United States proper) measures to seal off the people's capital.
Any Excuse to Step Up Security
Christian-Science Monitor (csmonitor.com)
The man accused of shooting at the White House with an assault rifle will appear Thursday afternoon in federal court in Pennsylvania for an extradition hearing, after which he is expected to be moved to Washington, D.C., to face charges of carrying a dangerous weapon.
Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez was arrested Wednesday by Pennsylvania State Police acting on a tip from the Secret Service. There are indications that Mr. Ortega-Hernandez felt he was part of a “personal mission from God,” the AP reported, quoting investigative authorities.

The AP also said there are signs the alleged shooter was obsessed with Pres. Obama. The president and Mrs. Obama were on a trip... More

It's too hard to read a book, even "1984" (video)

; Wisdom Quarterly; Space Kimono
() BBC Television's original 1954 live production of George Orwell's classic dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. (Creative Commons license: Public Domain).

Nineteen Eighty-Four is a classic book everyone should read at some point. We are living it now. It is by British author George Orwell (who lived in Burma). Written in 1948 (which led to the title by simply reversing the last two digits) and published in 1949, it is set in an unknown year (at least a year no one can be certain of).

It focuses on a repressive, totalitarian regime. The story follows the life of one seemingly insignificant man, Winston Smith. He is a civil servant at the "Ministry of Truth" (a kind Times building which serves as the document of record) tasked with falsifying records and political literature.

He effectively perpetuates propaganda, knowing what is true yet making sure the records show otherwise, disappearing people, rewriting history, and so on. He grows disillusioned with his meager existence and so begins a rebellion against the system.

The novel has become famous for its portrayal of secret surveillance and society's increasing encroachment on the civil liberties and natural human rights of the individual. Since its publication the terms "Big Brother" and "Orwellian" have entered the popular language.

Orwell, who had "encapsulated the thesis at the heart of his novel" in 1944, wrote most of Nineteen Eighty-Four on the island of Jura, Scotland, during 1947-1948. He was critically ill with tuberculosis. He sent the final typed manuscript to his friends Secker and Warburg in 1948, and the book was published on June 8, 1949.

Nineteen Eighty-Four has been translated into more than 50 languages (like his popular children's story of totalitarian tactics Animal Farm). The novel's title, its terms, its new language ("Newspeak"), and its author's surname are bywords for personal privacy lost to national state security.

The adjective "Orwellian" denotes totalitarian action or organization, as well as governmental attempts to appropriate and misuse information (disinformation) for the purposes of controlling, pacifying, and subjugating its population.

"Orwellian" can also refer to twisting language so that it says the opposite of what it really means (like Citizens United, Secure Communities, No Child Left Behind, Helping America Vote Act, Clean Water Act, Department of Defense, etc.). Specifically it is governmental propagandizing by the misnaming of things: the "Ministry of Peace" in the novel is actually the Department of War; the "Ministry of Love" actually tortures people; the "Ministry of Truth" is all about lying and fomenting propaganda.

Since the novel's publication, "Orwellian" has in fact become somewhat of a catch-all for any kind of governmental overreach and dishonesty.

The phrase "Big Brother is Watching You" refers to invasive surveillance. In the novel most information is gathered through the "telescreen," a sort of screen that spies on watchers. There are also surveillance cameras, helicopters, countless spies and informants, entrapment schemes, and microphones. (Most of this is now accomplished through iPhones, computers with cameras, CoIntelPro, and unwarranted wiretaps of all kinds).

Although the novel has been banned or challenged in some countries -- along with Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, We by Yevgeny Zamyatin, Kallocain by Karin Boye, and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury -- among the most famous literary representations of dystopia (an anti-utopia).

In 2005, Time Magazine listed it among the hundred best English-language novels published since 1923.

The book has often been misinterpreted as an attack on socialism. But Orwell himself had occasion to refute such claims, both privately and in public.

In a letter to Francis A. Henson of the United Automobile Workers (dated June 16, 1949 or seven months before he died), excerpts from which were reproduced in Life (July 25, 1949) and the New York Times Book Review (July 31, 1949), Orwell stated the following:

"My recent novel [1984] is NOT intended as an attack on Socialism or on the British Labour Party (of which I am a supporter) but as a show-up of the perversions... which have already been partly realized in Communism and Fascism.... The scene of the book is laid in Britain in order to emphasize that the English-speaking races are not innately better than anyone else and that totalitarianism, if not fought against, could triumph anywhere."

In his 1946 essay "Why I Write," Orwell described himself as a Democratic Socialist.

Nineteen Eighty-Four is set in Oceania, one of three intercontinental totalitarian super-states (the future Euro, Amero, and Other-o Zones).

The story occurs in London, the "chief city of Airstrip One," itself a province of Oceania that "had once been called England or Britain."

Posters of the ruling Party's leader "Big Brother" (a kind of Gen. Than Shwe, Hitler, Stalin, Churchhill, Bush, Cheney), bearing the caption BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU, dominate the cityscapes.

Two-way screens (the "telescreen") dominate the private and public spaces of the population.

Oceania's people are in three classes -- the Inner Party, the Outer Party, and the Proles (or 99%). The Party government controls the people via the Ministry of Truth ("Minitrue" in Newspeak), the workplace of protagonist Winston Smith, an Outer Party member.

As in the Nazi and Stalinist regimes, propaganda is pervasive; Smith's job is rewriting historical documents to match the current party line, the orthodoxy of which changes often.

The job (like that of Douglas Dietrich at The Presidio library) includes destroying evidence, amending newspaper articles, and deleting the existence of people identified as "unpersons" (the disappeared).

The only hope is a revolutionary party led by Emmanuel Goldstein. But that is a myth or an appropriated reality used by the Inner Party to entrap rebels like Winston Smith and his love interest Julia, who only pretends to be a member of the Anti Sex League.

Here are more details on the story if reading it still seems impossible. It is also available as an audio book, Kindle, and a more modern movie was made, which is not nearly as good as the original BBC version.

A Buddhist Revolution in Orwell's world (video)

() PART I. Orwell wrote 1984 about British and Burmese fascism in 1948.

"Burma VJ" (video journal) is a moving and shocking account of a recent Buddhist revolution against a totalitarian government. The popular protests that broke out across Rangoon in 2007 were brutally suppressed by police state tactics. Yet, they continue.

PART VI

This movie relies entirely on documentary footage shot by undercover reporters risking their lives to get the movement on film. It has been pieced together to form a picture of the events that took place over months.

It covers the initial protests led by Buddhist monks and nuns. Demonstrations broke out in response to a rise in fuel prices. This was a trigger on top of many government abuses and oppression. The movie also captures the brutal crack down by authorities.

Big Brother is alive and well in Naypyidaw as Ellen Page explains

A History of Revolution
Similar uprisings have taken place in other Buddhist countries: Tibet, with Chinese communist repression, Cambodia, with a violent reaction by the fascist Khmer Rogue regime, Nepal, a revolution spurred by Maoists and taken down by nervous pro-China government forces, Thailand, as Red and Yellow shirts or pro- and anti-government parties shut down the country, Laos, Vietnam, and Afghanistan (formerly Buddhist Kapilavastu), where American forces were instrumental in destroying rebellions.

The Power of an Idea whose Time has Come
Wisdom Quarterly
Nov. 16, 2011 Occupy Wall Street's first camp is demolished and swept into the dustbin. But you can not arrest an idea, or a movement, or the truth. The worldwide movement lives on. And Wall Street is still the focus of attention. The movement was never about a single location because the camp was never allowed on Wall Street to begin with. Parks and city centers all over the US are simply manifestation of the power of an idea whose time has come. The police state, predictably, cleared corporate Zuccotti Park in lower Manhattan in a predawn raid.

() Zuccotti Park today, Nov. 16, 2011, post invasion

Protesters have been allowed to return but without their insufficient winter equipment, which was stolen from them. The court intervened with a restraining order on police then quickly backed down due to 1 percenter multi-millionaire Mayor Bloomberg's influence behind the scenes. Demonstrators can now bring only a small bag with them, but no tents or sleeping bags are being allowed.

East Timor massacre: US-armed troops kill demonstrators
DemocracyNow.org
This weekend marked the 20th anniversary of the Santa Cruz massacre in East Timor. On Nov. 12, 1991, Indonesian troops fired on a peaceful memorial procession in the Santa Cruz cemetery in Dili, killing more than 270 East Timorese. Two decades later, Amnesty International has called for a judicial inquiry into the massacre, noting that the failure "to hold all the perpetrators to account highlights a wider problem of impunity for crimes under international law and other human rights violations committed during the Indonesian occupation of Timor-Leste (then East Timor) between 1975 and 1999." We play an excerpt from the 1992 documentary "Massacre: The Story of East Timor" produced by journalist Allan Nairn and Amy Goodman on dictator Suharto's Bush and US-backed crimes. More

Beating the Drum for War on IRAN (cartoon)

Wisdom Quarterly, RT.com, Jason Bermas

The abuses do not begin and end with cracking down on Occupy Movement free speech. The goal is far greater -- even more war and Perkins-style economic assassinations. Apathy means the war machine goes forward. The goal of occupiers is to call attention to the corporate greed and military madness behind our US policy of endless war as Orwell described in Nineteen Eighty-Four.

Is the latest IAEA report a case for a war with Iran? Why does the US get to read it first? Is there enough evidence to conclude that Iran's nuclear program goes far beyond peaceful purposes? And why is no-one questioning the credibility of the IAEA?

Police State? Who said Police State?

Coast to Coast, InfoWars.com, Josh Tolley, Wisdom Quarterly
Even the "right" opposes a police state. It blames the "left" (Red vs Blue), loves capitalism, supports police and war, tends to be racist and Christian. But nobody wants to live under a totalitarian regime like we do thanks to the shadow government pushing for the NWO.

Preserving freedom -- right wing style. Alternative media activist Alex Jones appeared on Coast to Coast (11-9-11). Like Jesse Ventura he is consumed with exposing the forces really controlling world events and preserving personal freedoms.

Having grown up in Texas, he witnessed corruption (by police) at an early age. He became an avid history student. And while still in high school, he started recognizing anti-gun, anti-family, globalist indoctrination. His college in Austin was pro-World Government... "a eugenics, transhumanist... total scientific dictatorship domination program."

Alex Jones was saying the same things a year ago.

After observing tragic police state oppression in Waco and Oklahoma City, he took to the airwaves on Public Access TV, radio, then the Web. He believes Timothy McVeigh was a patsy similar to Oswald.

"I never intended to try to be in the media; I wanted to work outside," said Jones. But as he learned of "total political takeover" and "New World Order brainwashing," he felt he had to warn people.

Legal to carry, but me frisking you is legal if I say it is.

He claims that what drives him is his quest for liberty, freedom, and fair play. "My goal is for us to learn from history and have a freer, libertarian, constitutional society," he explains. We are at a huge crossroads right now, and rather than the "greedy and hateful Illuminati" controlling human destiny, "I want to empower the better aspects of humanity and really see how far we can go."

Guns, capitalism, and free trade for freedom?

Regarding the TSA's invasive pat downs and [cancer and blindness causing] X-ray machines, he believes they are part of a plan "to break our will, and to train us that we have absolutely zero rights, zero liberties, and that the government any time it wants can pull you over, or come into your house without a warrant."

Jones announced that in addition to his radio show, he is now hosting Info Wars Nightly News, a live video news program covering the day's headlines, with unscripted analysis.

Occupy San Diego attacked by police (video)

Wisdom Quarterly, Occupy San Diego
"Hey you filthy hippie punk, don't you come near my barricade!"

Wisdom Quarterly neglected to organize Occupation Meditations at Occupy San Diego, our great neighbor to the south. It may not have prevented the onslaught of police state tactics, but it could only have helped. The Raiders of Oakland organized their paramilitary forces and in scenes reminiscent of Nineteen Eighty-Four came like thieves in the night and stole camping supplies and herded occupiers away to jail. "I've been dehumanized by the city/I've been Americanized by the pity," an old punk song once rang out.

Police storm Occupy Oakland (video)

Marcus Wohlsen (AP), Huffington Post, Wisdom Quarterly, Occupy Oakland
Paramilitary tactics on a peaceful civilian demonstration? It's what US police have been waiting to unpack as they take us from Brave New World Order to Orwellian nightmare.

OAKLAND, Northern California - Shock and awe. Police in full riot gear with tear gas and three helicopters overhead cleared anti-Wall Street Occupy Oakland protesters this morning (Oct. 25) from the plaza in front of Oakland's City Hall where they have been camped out for about two weeks. TV news footage shows numerous people in plastic handcuffs being led away from the site by police around after the 5:00 am raid. The protesters did not appear to be resisting, although an officer did fire a [potentially deadly] non-lethal projectile from a shotgun at a protester who lobbed a bottle, authorities told the San Francisco Chronicle. More

This morning at 5:00 am over 500 police in riot gear from cities all over central California brutally attacked the Occupy Oakland encampment at the intersection of 14th & Broadway. Riot police attacked the peaceful protest with flash grenades, tear gas, and [deadly canon style] rubber bullets after moving in with armored vehicles. Apparently, the media was not allowed in to document this repression, and one was warned or allowed to leave. Police established barricades as far apart as 11th and 17th. Over 70 people were arrested, and the camping gear was destroyed and/or stolen by riot police. Contact the mayor and tell her what you think of her actions.
  • Reconvene today (Tuesday, Oct. 25) at 4:00 pm at the Oakland Library on 14th & Madison.
  • We're not finished. We have only begun.
  • We will be protesting this planned atrocity at the next City Council meeting.

Sex and the Protests in Cartoons

PART I: Seven, Anonymous, Amber (Wisdom Quarterly)

Welcome Table. Occupy Los Angeles. "We are peaceful, but we are passionate" the hash tag under the FREE CONDOMS sign reads. All these liberals, all these tents, all these Anti-Sex League members.

To put it in context, in the book Nineteen Eighty-Four, Winston lives in a future world, a dystopia. Big Brother is always watching. His job at the Ministry of Truth is redacting, rewriting, and sanitizing history for the current regime (inner party). His only outlet is cheap gin. But his mind is mostly on sex.

And there she was, Julia, beautiful but sporting an "Anti-Sex League" (ASL) sash. Why? Because Big Brother does not want anyone enjoying him or herself or giving allegiance to anything but the state. It's true of Communist regimes. It's true of fascists. It may even be true of über liberal protesters.

"The personal is political, the personal is political," and we are radicals. There she sat on the City Hall steps, cross legged and contemplating the tip of her nose. Pitzer College sophomore. A dreamy Age of Aquarius trippy hipster, a merry hempster, an occupation "hippie." What did I think would happen as rave music blasted from the now barricaded Spring Street next to the occupation?

"No, not again, O, what a man, just who I thought that I wanted to have. O, don't do that....that's all it takes to make me falling flat. No, not again, the loser I am. I love you tonight. You are my knight, pure and assured to make me feel all right, tomorrow you'll find I'm not around, but don't be uptight, because I loved you last night. Vacant and free, yeah that is me...." the Cardigans sing. Is that how it is at Occupy Scandinavia?

This is LA, and the ASL will not stand for it. Maybe in Claremont, but in the (western) Belly of the Beast? Downtown is no Greenwich Village. It's not even Podunk, USA. It is just a megalopolis city center with a City Hall next to a Federal Court building adjacent to a jail and a corporate skyline hovering over what was once a pueblo with a hegemonic church. Cartman was watching. Would we "respect his authoritay," or poke the eye of the War Machine?

"Make love not war, make love not war," I rooted inside my head. She was four inches from my face. Am I supposed to kiss her? Am I supposed to get a room (tent)? Am I supposed to suppose? I chose to just be in the moment. It sounds good. But a plan would have been better.

We'll march to the freeway overpass in the morning and remind commuters, wage slaves, that we're here for them. They'll honk. We'll hug. Maybe we can fingerpaint for freedom in the morning.... TO BE CONTINUED

Abuse in ICE detention (PBS-Frontline)

Wisdom Quarterly, PBS, PRI, Frontline
() Coming Oct. 18: Lost in Detention examining the Obama administration's controversial illegal treatment of immigrants.

More than one million immigrants have been deported since Pres. Obama took office. Under his [Cheney-style] administration, deportations and detentions have reached record levels. With it have come complaints of rape, torture, abuse, indefinite detention, and harsh treatment, including charges that families have been unfairly separated after being caught in nationwide dragnets. The administration has promised to make the detention system more humane or to more selectively target serious criminals. But it faces Republican critics urging stricter measures -- and a growing backlash among compassionate voters and Latinos, a key 2012 electoral force. This is a powerful journey into the secretive world of immigrant detention, with a penetrating look at those being detained and the abuses they are put through.

  • WATCH on air and online beginning Tuesday, Oct. 18, 9:00 pm ET on PBS (check local listings).
(PRI, TheWorld.org) Few people associated the candidacy of Barack Obama with a “get tough” approach to illegal immigration. But the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has stepped up deportations under his orders.

And at the same time, a network of detention facilities has expanded to house illegal immigrants. Correspondent Maria Hinojosa from PBS-FRONTLINE along with the Investigative Reporting Workshop spent the last year exploring the hidden world of immigration detention.

Children of undocumented immigrants rally in DC (Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images).

In the past decade, three million immigrants have been detained in the system. One of them, a Canadian citizen, was a woman we’ll call Mary. She agreed to speak only if we disguised her identity. Her detention began when local police in Florida pulled her over in a routine traffic stop.

We do not live in a "police state," but somehow US citizens are wrongly detained and deported by I.C.E., yet another paramilitary force targeting civilians (warincontext.org).

They found a warrant for her arrest for a check she had bounced 10 years earlier. ICE discovered she had been living in the US for 15 years without a visa, so the agency sent her a thousand miles away to the Willacy detention center in Texas.

During her three months there, Mary says she endured repeated sexual assaults by a guard. Her voice choking with emotion, she told me how she tried to fight him off, and how he threatened her. “He said, ‘if you tell anyone, you wouldn’t come out of here alive to see your family.’ So then, who do you go and tell?”

() PBS.org A year long investigation examines the current U.S. immigration enforcement system and uncovers hidden stories of abuse in detention system. Hari Sreenivasan interviews Frontline's Maria Hinjosa.

A cache of government documents recently obtained by the ACLU details more than 170 allegations of sexual abuse during the past four years. And FRONTLINE’s investigation uncovered more than a dozen stories of sexual abuse at Willacy, and many other accounts of racial and physical abuse.

When we visited Willacy, ICE would not let us talk with detainees or interview the local ICE officials. But we did speak with dozens of former detainees and staff.

In 2009, Twana Cooks-Allen was the mental health coordinator at Willacy. She was asked to survey all detainees as part of a broad review of the detention system, undertaken by ICE officials in Washington. When Cooks-Allen delivered initial findings of the survey, she says local ICE officials began a cover-up. More

Woman dragged in bank then arrested (video)

Wisdom Quarterly, AboveTopSecret, MSNBC, Inc.

It is not enough not to protest. The secret police (undercover agents infiltrating peaceful movements) will drag you into the bank then arrest you for protesting in the bank.

It sounds Orwellian. It sounds impossible. It happened recently at CitiBank, Inc.

A plainclothes policeman dragged a woman into a bank protest to arrest her as an occupier of the bank. What was she doing? Was she trying to help the "occupiers" inside the bank get media attention or legal help? That will not be tolerated in Bush/Cheney/Obama's America! No, actually, she was a Citibank customer trying to close her account.

Corporate crime is organized, the best organized crime there is.

Close Your Account, Go to Jail

AboveTopSecret.com FORUM (edited)
I can not believe what I have witnessed in this video. Will they be showing this on the mainstream news?

People went in to close their Citibank accounts. But instead they were locked in the bank and arrested. Citibank claims they entered the bank as a large mob screaming and chanting. However, things appear to be very quiet and civilized until the police show up.

There is a female Citibank customer still outside trying to get her account closed. She is talking to a few of them from outside the glass when an undercover cop grabs her and with the help of a banker and police with clubs forcefully drags her in the bank. A man who tries to help her gets dragged in, too.

The Koch Brothers love what corporations are capable of.

She screams and clearly looks distressed, not understanding why she is being manhandled. The police HELP drag her into the bank! Then everyone starts yelling "this is wrong," "shame," "you are disgusting!" I found it highly disturbing.

Police are the Troublemakers at Peaceful Protests

Citibank knows he [yes "he," Mr. Citibank is a "corporate person" with more rights than you or I] can do whatever he wants under the present system.

He is an organized criminal, more umbrella than person, for criminals wearing suits. And the people's police are little better. Citibank supports its local police the way Wall Street donated to have the Occupy Wall Street movement kept as far from Wall St. as possible. More

Occupy Berkeley in the Sixties (video)

Wisdom Quarterly, Occupy Boston, Occupy Los Angeles, AlJazeera.net, Occupy Wall Street
Joined by labor unions, protesters march from Foley Square to Zuccotti Park, NY (Reuters/AlJazeera).

UC Berkeley was occupied giving rise to a generation of activists (Criticalthinking007)

"You will respect my authoritay!" is the police mantra chanted around the country. Teachers, unions, professionals can all join students, activists, and elderly demonstrators. The mantra is the same. As now, so in the 1960s. Then it was illegal wars, racism, and a lack of civil rights for all. Today the issues are far more pressing -- a matter of survival. Having enough to eat as bankers give a new spin to the ancient "Let them eat cake" utterance that preceded the French Revolution commemorated by Bastille Day. Wall Street onlookers from on high giggle "Let them sip champagne." "People over Profits" as transport unions join Occupy Wall Street demonstration.

Power to the People
AlJazeera.net
A diverse group of powerful unions has joined demonstrations in New York's financial district, lending some focus, credibility and potentially hundreds of participants to a movement that began with a few university students.

The "Occupy Wall Street" protest movement, which began three weeks ago in New York's financial hub, was joined on Wednesday by a dozen US labor unions.

Among those who joined the clamor were members of the Chinatown Tenants Union and the Transit Workers Union, the liberal group MoveOn.org, [CodePink,] and community organizations such as the Working Families Party and United NY. More
