"The Boy [Sid]" - Early Life of the Buddha (film)

Seven Dharmachari (Wisdom Quarterly)

The Boy Mir - a decade in Bamiyan, Afghanistan, possibly the real Kapilavastu

Following the international hit "The Boy who Plays on the Buddhas of Bamiyan," THE BOY MIR will cover not one year but ten. It will track the cheeky, enthusiastic Mir from a childish 8-year-old to a fully grown adult. Over that decade, it will be a journey into early adulthood in one of the toughest places on Earth, a journey that mirrors the current and vitally important story of Afghanistan.

"A fascinating peek at everyday rural Afghan life" - Denis Harvey, Variety.

"Surprising, fascinating and fulfilling…An unforgettable portrait of a boy and a country" - Ron Sutton, IDA Documentary Magazine

History of Sid
Where was the Buddha Siddhartha Gautama from? He was from Kapilavastu. Where is that? No one knows for sure, or they may know but modern politics gets in the way of saying.

What race was he? He was Shakyan. What is that? He lived on the northwestern frontier of ancient India. What race would that be today? No one knows for sure, or they perfectly well know but modern politics gets in the way of saying.

Wisdom Quarterly: American Buddhist Journal is willing to say. Of course, we only have facts, informed opinions, and the ancient texts to go on. We certainly do not have the support of the Nepal tourist council, corrupt British scholars (now deceased), or popular opinion.

The Buddhas of Bamiyan and the Boy Mir -- rural Afghanistan was once a cosmopolitan crossroads due to travelers along the Silk Road.

It is perhaps best to start with the standard interpretation of the story: Siddhartha Gautama, the Shakyan prince, was born in the Terai of southern Nepal, just outside of India, in a lush park named Lumbini. His mother was on the way to her ancestral home (Devadaha) to give birth as is the custom in India, a few miles from Kapilavastu. But birth pangs arose in the park, and Siddhartha was born under a Sal tree while she stood holding a branch.
(This detail is important because, as Wisdom Quarterly has pointed out elsewhere, it mirrors or perhaps was the origin of the mythology of the Salabhanjika, the tree beautiful tree nymph of Indian lore). Siddhartha grew up in relative splendor, being prepared to rule the territory of Kapilavastu. He had a white pony named Kanthaka. He was married to his cousin Yasodhara at 16. He liked sports -- archery, horseback riding, and his studies, enjoying the equivalent of a college education fit for a future king, which taught him all the arts, sciences, and agrarian business skills he would need to govern.

He had blue eyes, wavy black hair, was very handsome and relatively tall. He had fair skin, like all the Shakyans, which he described as "golden." Race then is not as it is now. At that time there were three colors of skin: black, brown, and golden.

Race -- a controversial topic today -- has always been a socially constructed category, not the naturally occurring one we imagine. UC Berkeley professor Tim White, like other scientists, dismisses "race" as a useless category that does not signify anything scientifically useful. It is so unreliable a measure -- particularly in terms of phenotypes but also nearly useless in terms of genotypes -- that physical anthropology has no use for it. Dr. White was one of the co-discoverers of humanity's African ancestor Lucy.

Of course, we do consider race extremely important. So cultural anthropology has to recognize it. But what the field recognizes is that various human groups use it differently. Most people on Earth today do not hold the American view of four major races, which are clear and distinct (by color, geographical origin, and of course temperament and innate capacity for such things as intelligence and fitness to rule over others).

In short we are racist; that is, American culture (and the imperial British, German, and European cultures it is based on) is racist. Most Americans would never admit to bias. Indeed, most of us are not aware of our biases or the deep-seated reasons for them.

That's why it's always good to know some racists: Nothing brings out our own small and cumulative bias into the sharp relief of neo-Nazis, white supremacists, Norwegian terrorists, and Southern Christian fundamentalists (to be fair, not all of them).

Most of the rest of the world categorizes one into a race group based on appearance. So full blooded siblings in the same nuclear family (from the same parents) are considered different races as determined by their appearance or phenotype. Americans do this, too, until we have more information -- accent, surname, national origin, religion, creed, what other family members look like...

Brazil and Cuba are excellent examples of cultures that go based on personal appearance. It is not that one in other parts of the world is presumed to be of one "race" until all the information is gathered. One is that race and will continue to be in spite of other mitigating information. Race is fluid, but for us it is very stiff. In the past we Americans were more racist than we are now. Any trace of another race in the bloodline made one that other race.

So being a tall, Nordic blond with 1/16th "Negro" (essentially, non-white since Negroes were not limited to Africans) made one black). We were borderline on the subject of racial "purity," and pedigree was imperative. That is not to say that we were alone in this. Bloodlines have always meant a great deal to the ruling class (royals), as our closeted German forbears attest.

Was the Buddha Caucasian?
What is "white"? The Buddha was Shakyan. What does this mean? It means he was Central Asian. Are Central Asians "white"? No, they are a melding of Asian and Caucasian, sometimes called Eurasian.

What does it mean to be Caucasian? It literally means descended from the peoples of the Caucuses mountain region -- an extraordinary region. It is extraordinary partly because it is part of the Himalayan range but mostly because it separates Asia from Europe.

From an American perspective, many of those people would seem to be white. But clearly their faces have Asiatic features. Their skin, hair, and eye color might get them labelled white, but their heritage and geographical origin would do to the Buddha what was done to Christ: It makes them geopolitically Middle Eastern. (Thanks to the CIA definition of the changing political climate).

BBC documentary: Jesus was Buddhist monk

Jesus was from the Middle East? Jesus was probably black -- from northern Africa, a meeting place of continents, growing up in Egypt and traveling like a Bedouin -- at least according to the Bible, namely, Saint John of Patmos. (But as Bible-loving, Judeo-Christian Americans, we ignore that part of the Book of Revelations, obviously a late inclusion into the canon).

There are fascinating theories that Jesus and his mysterious forbears were pharoahs. (See Jesus in the House of the Pharoahs, Jesus Last of the Pharoahs). That is certainly not the history we are taught in Sunday School, but then history is a socially-constructed phenomenon, not a hard science. Our favorite theory -- which meets history's gold standard, written documentation -- is that Jesus (called Issa in India and the Islamic world) was a Buddhist monk as suggested by the British Broadcasting Corporation, hardly a biased, Buddhist news source.

Imagine the implications -- the creator of the universe is Black, Buddhist, and ever so compassionate. Of course, these are just human-historical constructs that can be deconstructed. Would humans really bend history to suit themselves? Of course we would. It has been happening to Christianity since at least the Roman Empire got its hands on the Christian Church and its official history-keeping duties. The truth never stood a chance of becoming common knowledge.
  • Why bring up Jesus? He is regarded as the most famous human who ever lived. The Buddha lived at least five centuries earlier, and has lived on in history five centuries longer. The Buddha was for much of that time the most important human who ever lived. He is called the Prince of Peace and the Light of Asia, but this disguises how influential he was to the Caucasus region of Central Asia. Christians, not to be outdone, call Jesus the Prince of Peace and the Light of the World. If Jesus had studied Buddhism and been ordained a monk in Hemis Gompa, Ladakh, India/Tibet, as is documented in writing by the Buddhist monks in that region, might his teacher not be deserving of more recognition? Long before either the Buddha or the Christ, surely Mithra (another Central Asian figure) was the most famous human who ever lived. And eventually Mohammed will be. If a popularity contest were the equivalent of truth, we vote for another Middle Easterner Gilgamesh/Bilgames (of Sumeria). The shamans, the pharoahs, Krishna, the whole Adamic "race" of humans has had its "most important human" along with its "gods" (devas, asuras, and brahmas). And while there was probably no actual Adam or Eve (and let's not forget Lilith), it's easier to talk about the group through the figurehead of a single man and woman, which has the largely ignored benefit of making us all brothers and sisters, just as Lucy makes us all cousins.

What a place to be from!

It is brilliant that the Bodhisattva (buddha-to-be) was born between continents. And we would extend that same compliment to Jesus. Whereas the Buddha links Asia and Europe, Christ links Africa and Europe. But we see what "Christians" have done in the name of white supremacy. They have taken a black figure and made him white.

If Buddhism continues to enjoy the same widespread influence and adoption in the West that was seen in the East, he too will almost certainly be converted into a "white" man.

He is already considered an Indo-Aryan (not in the sense the Nazis appropriated and made infamous thanks to the history they constructed for themselves using Madame Blavatsky's material, a Russian mystic who understood that the Buddha was essentially if not technically Russian. For the USSR once extended throughout most of Central Asia. Siberia has a long Buddhist history.

Ivolginsky Datsan Siberian Buddhist temple, Russia (sacred-destinations.com)

Anna Reid traveled the length and breadth of Siberia -- 1/12th of the world’s land surface, larger than the United States and Western Europe combined -- to tell the story of its people. Drawing on sources ranging from folktales to KGB reports, and on interviews with shamans and Buddhist monks [shramans] in The Shaman’s Coat, a unique and intrepid travel chronicle.

Ancient Persia (now Iran, which means Aryan), Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan are just a few of the ancient outposts the Dharma reached and influenced, creating the strangest and nicest of all Islamic hybrids, Sufism. But the USSR failed to win its second most important conquest -- the incorporation of Afghanistan -- assuming its most important conquest would have been to conquer the West. But, surely, Russia is the "West," too? Russians are "white," except for the formerly Central Asian colonies that reverted to nonwhite status.

Archeology, history, and Buddhist texts suggest the Buddha was Afghani. Of course, there was no such thing as "Afghanistan." And centuries later when Islamic and Arabian hordes conquered the area, the Dharma that once prospered and meant so much all along the Silk Route was rubbed out of the fabric of daily life.

Are Middle Easterners white? They certainly look like it. But many in Southern Europe have a hard time getting into the exclusive club. Were ancients Greeks white? Was Nefertiti white? "White" has no hard and fast meaning. So the answer is, They are white when it suits the powers that be to call them white in recognition of their magnificent accomplishments.

Ancient Greece -- such as the Indo-Greek empire of Bactria (Balkh) -- was Buddhist before Buddhism caught on in China. But certainly Greece is the fount of the West? Is it only a coincidence that the ancient land of the Shakyans (also spelled Sakyans) is on the map as Sakala, Sakae, and Sakastan (modern Afghanistan, nowhere near Nepal).

Kapisa, Kapilavastu? Sakala, Sakyan territory? Sakastan, the extent of Sakyan territory? Sakae reaching toward Tajikistan? Were the Sakas the Sakyas (pronounced Shakyas) gone unrecognized because British history by Fuhrer says the Sakyas lived in Nepal? The Shakyan clan's rule ended with the conquest of the Buddha's extended family who remained in the world by an angry relative retaliating after finding out he was half-slave, half-Sakyan. The Buddha explained that even his interventions were not enough to overcome the force of a rare instance of collective karma ripening for his father's clan.

Whites and Europeans consider Greece the fountainhead of science, art, empire. Buddhist contributions to our history have not been credited to the Buddha, but to Greek philosophers influenced by Indian travelers and the Dharma that reinvigorated greater India after the ancient Vedic civilizations had fallen into obscurity.

Aryan Invasion theories are another topic entirely, but suffice it to say that who the original Aryans were would surprise many. They were not Nordic tribes coming down from Germany and Austria to teach the subcontinent enlightenment and advanced technology 5,000 years ago as Hitler, Goebbels, and Dr. Mengele might have suggested. (Nazis were adept at spin doctoring, taking parts of spiritualism and mysticism, namely Blavatsky's and the Theosophists, and fashioning them to meet their own ends. It is tantalizing to realize that the Nazis did not lose WW II, as is commonly suggested in the new propaganda that supplanted the old.

The NAZI mentality is alive and well in many of the countries that welcomed war criminals to secretly exploit their scientific advancements in clandestine services, intercontinental rocket technology, the development of nuclear bombs, and space travel. Not only America's now defunct OSS, but NASA, the CIA, Pentagon, Moussad, ISI, KGB, and above all the British Mi6 (SIS), who seem to have been secretly ruling the world since inheriting the empire from Rome.
Afghanistan is Russia's "Vietnam." Or as they say in the former USSR, the Vietnam War is America's Afghanistan. Just as we inherited Vietnam (and secret wars on Laos and Cambodia) from imperial France, we inherited our troubles in Afghanistan from the British (Anglo-Afghan wars) and a longstanding CIA/Russian conflict.

This is strange because now Afghanistan is America's Afghanistan, having lasted longer and cost so much that our society may never recover -- unless the incredible conclusions of the following report are true:

UFO discovered in Afghan cave's time well

It is hard to say what makes Afghanistan so important -- but the fact that it is important, strategic, and intractable is explained by Fitzgerald & Gould (invisblehistory.com). A more remarkable tale comes from the arena of exopolitics and an alleged vimana (ancient Indian spacecraft) caught in a "time well" there.

Why else would the world's leaders go into the Afghan war zone? But is the world ready for "disclosure" about ancient astronauts (Indian devas and Zoroastrian asuras), extraterrestrial weapons systems, and the real history of the planet our rulers have held back? The war in heaven (space) rages on, as explained by Steven Quayle on Coast to Coast.

In conclusion, the Buddha was Central Asian, a frontier Indian. For ancient India was not actually a country with certain borders. It was a collection of 16 maha-janapadas ("great footholds of the tribes" or "territories of powerful family clans"). Kapilavastu was in Afghanistan, in the confluence of Caucasian and South Asian cultures.

Durand or Zero Line border between Afghanistan and Pakistan (in red). The blue area represents the predominant Pashtun and Baloch areas.

Until recently, Pakistan was Gandhara, India. The exiting British made it so. They also drew a "zero line" (Durand) separating what we call Afghanistan from what we now call India, whose borders remain in dispute. Neither China, nor Pakistan, nor Tajikistan (prompted byfasura the Kremlin) are ready to yield to India, which was once a superpower.

There are Giants (Titans) even Now

Wisdom Quarterly (edit of Wikipedia entry on Buddhist asuras)
"There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God [devaputras] came in unto [impregnated] the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown" (Genesis, 6:4).

While all the devas of the Sensual Sphere worlds (which includes Earth, subhuman planes, and lower celestial planes) are subject to the passions to varying degrees, titans (asuras) above all others have become addicted to them, particularly wrath, pride, boasting, and bellicosity.

Because of their passions, rebirth as a titan is considered one of the four unhappy destinations (together with rebirth as an animal, a ghost, or a hellion). The state of a titan is reflected by the mental state of human beings obsessed with force and violence, always looking for an excuse to get into a fight, angry with everyone and unable to maintain calm or resolve disputes peacefully.

In terms of power, titans rank above humans but below most other devas. They live in the area at the foot of Mount Sumeru (either in the region of ancient Sumer, the center of the Sumerian civilization, with earthly access to space or a broadcasting "tower" as in the legend of the "Tower of Babel" according to Wisdom Quarterly, or the highest mountains in the world, the Himalayas, which would place them in the vicinity of Afghanistan as the report that came to author Stephen Quayle's attention).

The titan leaders are called "titan lords" (Pali, asurinda) and there are various according to tribes and factions. Among them are the bow-wielding Dānaveghasa titans and the terrible-faced Kālakañjakas. The principal leaders are Vepacitti, Rāhu (aka Verocana), and Pahārāda.

Myths of the Titans
The titans formerly lived in the space world of the Thirty-Three, Tavatimsa, on a plane level with the peak of Mt. Sumeru, with the other devas of that world. When Sakka became the supreme ruler of that world, the titans celebrated by drinking a lot of sura (beer, although some say gandapāna wine), a liquor so strong that Sakka had forbidden it.

Weakened by their drunkenness, the titans were unable to effectively resist when Sakka had them tossed out of that "heaven" onto this Earth at the base of Sumeru. (This story provides an explanation of their name, a-sura, "no [more] sura"). A tree grows where they landed called Cittapātali, and when the marooned crew saw it blossoming, they realized that it was different from the Pāricchattaka tree growing at home. They knew they had been dispossessed.

They now contemplated revenge in the form of a war in heaven. In armor with weapons, they ascended Mt. Sumeru. Sakka set out to confront them but was forced to retreat because of their numbers.

Passing through the forest where the avian-hybrids (garuḍas) live on his "flying chariot," Sakka saw that his passage was destroying their nests and ordered his "charioteer" [flight crew leader] Mātali to turn back. When the pursuing titans saw Sakka turn about, they felt certain that he must be coming back with an even larger army. So they fled, ceding the ground they had gained.

Despite their many wars, there was eventually a partial peace between the titans and the Tavatimsa devas. This came about because Sakka fell in love with Sujā, the daughter of the titan chief Vepacitti. He had given Sujā the right to choose her own husband at an assembly of the titans. She chose Sakka, who had attended disguised as an aged titan. Vepacitti (a kind of "Lucifer" figure in Buddhism long before Judaism or Christianity came into existence) thus became the father-in-law of Sakka (also called Maghavā, a kind of archangel "Michael" figure). More

  • The suggestion is that Sumer and Mesopotamia between ancient India and Judah (Israel/Egypt) all shared similar stories, creation myths, about life on Earth, fallen angels, celestial gods and wars. Buddhism inherited mythology, particularly as filtered through the Brahminical Vedas. The stories are clearly far older than either the Christian or Jewish sacred texts, older even than the ancient Sumerian tablets.
There Were Giants on Earth
Steve Quayle
LongWalkers: The Return of the Nephilim" (Buddhist asuras) is written as a work of fiction and a movie script based on fact. In it he has included a personal letter he received from a pilot who flew a 12-foot tall, dead, cannibalistic giant out of Afghanistan/Pakistan. It had apparently destroyed a Special Forces team hunting the Taliban in 2005.

The giant has six fingers and six toes and is depicted on the cover of the book as an accurate artist's rendering of the actual event. The pilot revealed to him by phone, Quayle claims, things only someone who was actually there could have possibly known.

The Book
LongWalkers (288 pages, seven full-page illustrations, and a copy of the letter on which the book is based) takes the reader around the world and through time in search of the truth about the returning giants [in Buddhist cosmology the asuras or "titans"]. The story begins in Gaul (109 BC) then shifts to the Grand Canyon Utah (1919), goes around the world with stops in Turkey, Lake Titicaca in Bolivia, Europe, back to the US, Salisbury Plain in England, Neu-Schwabenland in Antarctica, to Egypt, Izamal in Mexico's Yucatan, and finally to San Francisco and Khartoum in Sudan.

Biblical Items Left In
"And it came to pass when the children of men had multiplied, that in those days were born unto them beautiful and comely daughters. And the angels [asuras or akasha-devas], the children of the heaven [devaputras], saw and lusted after them, and said to one another: Come, let us choose us wives [have sex with] from among the children of men and beget us children.

"And they became pregnant and brought forth giants. And when men could no longer sustain them, the giants turned against them and devoured mankind. And they began to sin against birds, and beasts, and reptiles, and fish, and to devour one another's flesh, and drink the blood. Then the earth laid accusation against the lawless ones" (Enoch, 6:1-2, 7:1).

Noah needed an Ark
The sixth chapter of Genesis contains an account of the days of Noah, a description of momentous interest to us: for [Christians say their god] has declared that a similar epoch of worldliness will at length exhaust [his] forbearance... towards the present dwellers upon earth, and cause Him to come with fire, and with His chariots like a whirlwind [spacecraft or UFOs], to render His anger with fury, and His rebuke with flames of fire; to plead with all flesh by fire and by His sword (Isa. lxvi. 15, 16).

"Thor": Sakka, King of the Gods (video)

Wisdom Quarterly (ORIGINAL SCHOLARSHIP)

The new movie should have been released on the auspicious Thursday (Thor's day)

Thor is the Germanic Pagan name for a figure grown to mythic proportions. It is none other than Sakka (Sanskrit, Sakra), king of the "gods." The gods in questions are devas (literally, "shining ones," a class of relatively low-ranking celestial beings superior to humans in many ways).

While Sakka figures into many Buddhist tales (jatakas), discourses (sutras), and Buddhist cosmology, Buddhism did not invent Sakka. It inherited him from Brahmanism, the dominant religious teaching of the Buddha's day. Relying on the Vedas, Brahmanism went on to seed many of the world's religions (particularly Hinduism and, in a jumbled way, Catholicism, Christianity, and Judaism).

To the Hindus, Sakka (a.k.a. Thor) was Indra, an amalgamation rooted in an older god (heavenly king) Rudra, the "god of thunder."

To the Catholics and Christians and Jews, Sakka is -- according to the analysis of Wisdom Quarterly -- St. Michael. For Sakka is most famous for one thing he did in heaven.

The name of that heaven, two tiers up from Earth, is the Realm of the Thirty-Three (Tavatimsa). And the legendary act was evicting the rebellious leader of the "demons" (asuras).

Christians are confounded, assuming "God" (Odin/Zeus/Deus in Latin, Dios in Spanish) did his own tossing. But the actual evicting was done by St. Michael, an archangel. And the devas in Buddhism and Hinduism are quite like "angels" in Christianity and Judaism. Many of them being female (devis), they are quite like the Valkyries. (Of course, as in all things Christian, credit soon devolves to Jesus, the only "son of god").
  • No Christian knows what "son of god" or "only begotten son" actually means because the title does not come from their tradition. Having borrowed, they have had to invent meanings for it. Buddhism teaches us what it refers to: "Son of god," or devaputra, is a popular Buddhist/Brahminical reference which simply means a deva, "one reborn among the devas." It is hardly a unique descriptor that fits only JC. We can all becomes devas and devis, sons and daughters of devas. And sadly this was Christ's message, for which he got crucified. What was he saying other than we as humans have divine potential? We can all be reborn in heaven(s); don't let these "demons" (rebellious angels who themselves are angry because they got thrown out) pull you down.*
  • Who could this great all-powerful creator God be other than Buddhism's Maha-Brahma, the Great Supremo, who is great but is hardly supreme. There are many greater "Gods" (brahmas), none of whom actually "created" the universe, although they may have built their realms through the fruits of karma and by wielding magic.
  • But just as Jesus soon gets called God, Thor is called God, and yet it is this Sakka/Indra who was originally called the "god of gods," the "lord of lords, the "king of kings." Buddhism explains why.
In fact, the similarities are so strong from culture to culture -- with only the names and regional details changing -- that it soon becomes clear we are talking about the same beings/legendary figures.
  • Wikipedia's Thor: In Norse mythology, largely recorded in Iceland from traditional material stemming from Scandinavia, numerous tales and information about Thor are provided. In these sources, Thor bears at least fourteen names, is the husband of the golden-haired goddess Sif, is the lover of the jotunn Jarnsaxa, and is generally described as fierce-eyed, red-haired and red-bearded.[1]
Buddhism has a beautiful twist on Sakka/Thor. Not only is he married, his wife (or chief consort) is an asuran princess. Asuras are of course the "demons," those rowdy "angels of light" gone bad by rebellion and thrown out of Second Heaven, the Realm of the Thirty-Three, where the 33 refers to "lords" (chief devas).

If the 33 are "lords" and Sakka is their lord, sort of the chief of the council, then his title in that world is "lord of lords."

But Sakka rules our skies too. And our skies -- our near-Earth space -- is divided into four quarters, the cardinal directions. Each is assigned for caretaking to a sky-"king." These Four Great Kings (catu-maha-rajikas) answer to Sakka, the chief caretaker of Earth. Sakka is therefore quite sensibly called the "king of kings."

What did not make sense in Christianity makes perfect sense in Buddhism. It may be no more believable, but when we go to direct sources, there is a lot less muddling. And because Christianity aggregates to itself much more importance, power, and privilege (as an amalgamation-religion borrowing parts from here, there, and all over), it soon crumbles under the weight of its grandeur and self-importance.

"Jesus in Kashmir (India)" BBC documentary

What was once a relatively minor, but enormously important deva in Earth terms, somehow gets blown out of proportion into "creator of the universe." Why this happened may be traced back, at least in Buddhism, to Maha-Brahma's hubris. His vaulting ambition to impress his retinue and everyone beneath him right down to you and me.
  • The leader of the "demons" (asuras) in that heaven was not "Satan." [Christians do not know who Satan is but can find out their own history of this figure by watching this exciting story of the development of Hell]. But since satan means "accuser," he was that. The leader was not Lucifer (light bearer), but h seems to have held up a torch in rebellion, so sort of. In Buddhism, the rebel leader's name is Vepacitti (Sanskrit, Vemacitrin), chief of the legion of asuras who were tossed out by Thor/Sakka. The devas were the "hosts" (good or defensive battalions because, in case one hasn't noticed, there's a lot of war in the lower heavens). The devil, the great satan, the Cupid, the tempter, the beautiful heavenly "angel" (deva) even Maha-Brahma has to worry about is Mara Devaputra (the "corrupter born among the devas").

"Hell: The Devil's Domain" documentary (History Channel)

Verily, verily I say to thee, one will never really understand Christianity without studying Buddhism.

And Catholicism never made a bit of sense on its own terms but came to make perfect sense when I learned Hinduism in college.

Jesus (St. Issa in India) was a Buddhist and one well acquainted with Brahmanism (which survives modified as Hinduism) and Jainism and yoga, and someday the Vatican and Protestant scholars will have to publicly admit (as many already do in private) that Jesus lived in India:

His "missing years" were never "missing" at all but were purposely excised from the Bible during its long construction through various councils. The motive was to make a new religion independent of the Wisdom of the East from which it came because Jesus lived in the [geopolitical] West. And never mind that he found his greatness through the East.

The Catholics and Vatican have made the muddling worse because they tried to further universalize (catholic just means "universal") the religion taking it further and further from its roots to set it apart as "the greatest story ever told."

If it's a great story -- and it is no accident that Roman Catholicism is the world's largest religion today -- it's because it "borrowed" so much of the story from so many other traditions. But the result is not a religion we can all get behind; it's a mess.

And we forget that this is the old Thor story. And who outside of early Buddhism has even heard of Sakka?

*NOTE: It's sad. We at Wisdom Quarterly are NOT Christians. And we don't mean to be, and we don't want to be. Yet we so often end up defending poor, misunderstood Rabbi Jesus (Issa) because his own religions (Mithraism, Judaism, Greek Orthodoxy, Catholicism, Protestantism) so distort his story and history. They try to make of him a be-all, end-all universal God. He touched divinity. He was not divinity. All humans, and we'll go further and say all beings, have access to divine potential. Temple priests would stand for a lot of things from a lot of nuts returning from India preaching goodwill. But the one thing they would not stand for is the same thing Christians today cannot stand -- the message that you are GOD, I am GOD, we are all GOD. There is nothing that we are not capable of, but even rebirth in heaven requires that one be "born again," not in any figurative sense. We're already holy, in a sense; we just need to polish off the mud from the diamond as Hinduism teaches. But the heavens are literal as well as figurative, and if one should wish for rebirth there, one will surely have to leave things behind here. Leave it behind. And we must all stop fighting. The Buddha teaches peace. And if there were ever two teachers who would get along better than Sid and Jess, we have yet to meet them. The Buddha was not a Christian. But as it turns out, as the BBC has documented, Jesus may well have been a Buddhist monk at one time. Jews keep coming to India, fascinated by the same Mahayana-Tibetan flair that so fascinated the yogi Jesus. It's hardly a coincidence because Judaism itself is rooted in Vedic Brahmanism and Buddhism. And it becomes complete, rather than just a set of distinctive cultural practices devoid of spiritual completeness, when one returns.

UFO Disclosure to U.S. Public Increasing

Alien discovered in Siberian snow
Video still of alien discovered in Siberia with missing limbs from crash (news.com.au). Hoax or cover up?

A video that has gone viral (with 1.5 million hits in two days) with incredible footage that has emerged of what a group of Russians claim is the remains of a mangled alien. The Sun reports the lifeless "body" was found in snow in the Irkutsk region of southern Siberia following reports of a "pink and blue glowing object," which crashed from the sky. More

China announces: Obama to reveal UFOs exist
EU Times (Jan. 23, 2011)

Hundreds of millions of Chinese citizens were stunned after government makes Obama UFO statement. They remain stunned today after China’s official government television news station Xinhua made their unprecedented January 4th announcement that the American president, Barack Obama, was preparing to announce to the world the existence of extraterrestrial races currently on our planet fueled by what they call an “extraterrestrial disclosure race” now developing between China and the US. Unfortunately for the American people, their propaganda media outlets have refused to allow them to know of this historic event. And even worse, they are keeping from these people [the Americans] the grave and dire situation facing our entire planet as we near what the ancients called “The End of Days.”

JFK Demanded UFO Files Prior to Assassination
NowPublic, April 19, 2011

JFK Requested UFO Files From FBI: What Do We Know About Aliens? Just ten days before he was assassinated [by a government plot], US President John F. Kennedy sent a letter to the CIA demanding information on UFO intelligence.

Kennedy wanted to share UFO intelligence with Moscow in order to expedite joint space exploration and UFO investigations amid the chill of the Cold War: "It is important that we make a clear distinction between the knowns and unknowns in the event the Soviets try to mistake our extended cooperation as a cover for intelligence gathering of their defense and space programs."

JFK: "Tell Me About Aliens and UFOs"
The letter was sent on November 12, 1963. On the same day, JFK wrote to the director of NASA to orchestrate cooperative efforts in space exploration.

The timing of these letters will thrill conspiracy theorists, who will connect these requests with the death of JFK. The JFK-aliens connection has already been made. But the FBI vault will only throw fuel on the fire. What would Robbie Williams, pop star and UFO researcher, think?

FBI: Cattle Mutilations, Aliens, UFOs, Frank Sinatra

The FBI Vault has some fascinating releases, but the search functionality isn't perfect. Searching for "Roswell" turns up a file on Frank Sinatra, though no mention of the purported UFO crash site is actually mentioned in Sinatra's file. If you want to read FBI documents on cattle mutilations, and their suspected connections to cults and flying saucers, go for it.
